How tip concierge from U.S.?

I was very ill in Paris for three days. The concierge at our small hotel helped us immensely with getting a doctor, sending emails on his laptop to cancel our rental car and calling a taxi to rush us to the airport where we flew home. In the confusion, we forgot to tip him. Now, back in the U.S., what is the best way to do that? Send U.S. dollars (we don't have any more euros) in an envelope? Thanks.

I am not sure what would be the best thing to do, but I would NOT put cash in an envelope and mail it.

It's illegal to send cash through the mail in France, so don't do that. Send it to him by PayPal or get an international draft from your bank or a international money order from the Post Office.

I'd e-mail the hotel and ask them the best way. They might even let you put a gratuity on your credit card and forward the proceeds to him. Or some other arrangement.

But - I'd also e-mail him directly w/ thanks and let him know what you arranged w/ the hotel . . . Just to make sure he gets the €€

I think I would call the hotel directly and ask to speak to the concierge and tell him you are going to ask the desk to give him a specific amount of money and apologize for forgetting it. Then ask to be transferred back to the desk , and make your request and give them your CC information

avalon's idea is probably a better route to the same end -- get him and the hotel on the phone and forget the e-mails.

There are numerous gift certificates that you can purchase over the internet and have them mailed to the person of your choice.
