How much should a flight from the east coast to London cost?

I'm finding $1,300 to $1,400 from GSP, Atlanta and Charlotte. Is that the going rate or should I wait and hope that costs go down for our June trip?

That's what they were asking for a flight this year, but sales should help bring the costs down; however, it's way too early for a June sale. I think you should expect to pay no less than $1000, though, with about $300 of that being taxes and surcharges.

Start to get serious in Jan., but do not jump until March if you do not see a price you like.

Thanks, makes me a little nervous not to have flights locked in though.

It is your $$$---the airlines will be happy to take it.
They look at res 6 months out and also 3 months out to consider enticing buyers with price, but June is always tough.

Trust me on this ... the seats will not sell out between now and the end of the year. Keep an eye out for sales and certainly jump on it if you see a price you like (especially if it dips below $1000), but this is way way too early to book. There's absolutely no benefit.

Wait for sales. Last Spring fares were running just about the same as now very high. Yet in Feb I found open jaw flights from the west coast into Edinburgh and home from London for $883 all in.

Airline tickets are an auction like E-Bay. If you want to buy it now, you may pay more than if you are willing to risk losing it altogether.

It is way too early in the auction to buy unless you are going to a wedding or something where you have to be there at a certain time. Right now, the airlines are going on the premise that they are going to sell every seat at full price. They hedge that bet by selling blocks of seats more cheaply to tour operators, but only when it becomes apparent that they have been too optimistic do they sell seats to the public on sale. That will happen sometime after January, most years. By April 1, they are optimistic again and prices start back up.

Check your routes a couple times a week on kayak.com and also take a look at the seats available. You'll see when they start selling, and you'll also notice the fares might be slightly less on certain days of the week. I'd wait to buy till at least January or later, but that would depend on what I was seeing on kayak. Hope this helps a bit.

You can also sign up for alerts on kayak.com, either on a daily basis or a weekly basis.

How much flights SHOULD cost and what they actually cost are almost always two different stories!
