We are going to Paris in May (first time!) and a friend wants to visit family in Colmar. Should we drive or take the train and how many hours will it take us?

We drove this about 4 years ago, from Orly to Colmar and it took about 4 hours.

If "we" refers to three or more, I think that car is the clear cut preferred way to go.

And planning any car trip, I recommend that you become familiar with one or both of these two excellent websites for route planning, driving distances, time estimates, tolls, etc.

Several years ago when AA was flying in and out of Orly airport we got a flight on Air Liberte added on to our AA flight to fly to Strasbourg. This add on was cheaper than the train or driving. The flight from Orly to Strabourg was less than an hour. We picked up a car at the STrasbourg airport and drove to Colmar in less than an hour.

I wish that AA could still fly in and out of Orly. It is a much easier airport to navigate and so easy to get a car to drive south in France.

It is my understanding that no international carriers go in and out of Orly anymore.
