LOL - just realized that my original thread had been topped.

Just as an update, I have been married now for about 8 months, and only travel with my husband now, so there are no more issues =)

So tell us: how did you get on in Austria and Italy? Were you subjected to unwelcome attention, and how did you cope?

No approaches from anyone this time round - as I knew from before, living in France, not making any eye contact usually works quite well, except for the occasional persistent guy. We were fortunate enough not to run across any of these persistent ones during our 2 1/2 weeks in Austria, Venice, and France.

Having read this post for the first time just now, I've missed the opportunity to respond to the original query which was posted almost two years ago.

My first thoughts were "have we seen a picture of the delightful abbynicole27?" To presuppose that men are going to be chasing after you assumes an awfully high confidence in your looks. I wonder if this is a false confidence.

First off, there is no need to try to score cheap hits on anybody.

Second, (and perhaps because I am not the sort of person who hits on women in the street) I don't know what the criteria are. It is not simply a matter of a woman being good-looking. I know some women that I consider good-looking and yet are rarely hit upon, and others who might be thought less good-looking, and are pestered by strange men. I suspect that it has to do with an appearance of vulnerability.

[For the purposes of this comment, I disregard women who signal, with some degree of intent, that they are "up for it".]

appearnce of vulnerability? Perhaps true but there are men who will hit on a hole in the wall if they could! Not all men but some.

m_kingdom,
I have no pretensions of being more than average in looks. You may not have noticed it, but there are a number of European men that seem to consider it their job to hit on anything that moves. Ask any Canadian girl who has been to Europe if they have seen it, and I guarantee they will agree.
Yes, I do believe self-consciousness does tend to exascerbate the sitution, and there I am guilty as charged, but I have improved in this as the years pass.
However self-conscious I may be though, I am assertive enough to ask that you please not make insulting assumptions about my character.

nice one abbynicole27 !!
I am sure Mr abbynicole must consider you pretty gorgeous or he wouldn't have married you.
MK2 only sees beauty in what can be bought at pretentious over priced designer shops in london.

Take no notice of MK2 He/she (still not sure lol) lives on a different planet.
