How do I get from Naples to Sorrento?

Any ideas on how to get from Naples to Sorrento? Is there a train? If so, can I use a eurorail pass or do I need a seperate ticket?

Circumveusviana train links Naples and Sorrento taking about an hour, frequent trains costing a grand total of about 3.5 euros! This is a commuter train - railpasses are not valid. Change at Napoli Centrale to Sorrento trains below Napoli Centrale. single-class can be crowded. This line has a stop right at the entrance to Pompeii archaeological site - can commuter from Sorrento in a few minutes.

Does anybody know if there are times of the day (on a weekday) that the Circumvesuviana is more crowded (Naples - Sorrento) than others?

I'l always reading that it's really crowded, but wondering if there are times when this isn't likely to be the case - if so, will try to ride then.

Stra,
If you are travelling from Naples airport there is the Curreri bus to Sorrento.

http://www.curreriviaggi.it/pagine/agenzia_viaggi.htm

Check the times as it may be more convienient.

This is truly a commuter train. Therefore busiest at the start and end of the work and school day. Sorrento is the main town in the area so many kids go to school there. Don't know about summer school.

I have done this twice and was a bit concerned until I figured it out.

You buy the ticket on the way down from the main station. About 2-4E.

There's an electronic board that shows the various trains and the track number.

There are more trains than tracks. Be careful here.

The train number and destination will flash in red over the track ramp just before (less than a minute) the train arrives. It only stops for a few minutes.

I've seen tourists get on the wrong train as they took the first one to come on that track.

I've gone in each direction twice and never had a problem finding a seat.

Luggage just stands beside you.
