How difficult to drive from Beaune to the Dordogne?
We have 5 nights after Beaune and are considering driving to the Dordogne but the route looks difficult.
Would love to hear from anyone who has done this. How bad were the roads and was it an all day treck? Thanks.
(Yes I have checked with viamichelin.com...would like first-hand experience)

No problem, 526km, mostly autoroute. Less than 7 hours driving time. Some scenery along the drive, in particular after Clermont-Ferrand (volcanic region). However, I strongly recommend leaving the autoroute on the last section and driving the beautiful mountain roads.

Driving across France on small roads is one of the great pleasures of life. I purposely cross the most isolated areas just for the fun of the discovery. It is somewhat strange to see a post where driving across a small part of the country can be considered unpleasant or too difficult.

Hi LC,
Viamichelin says it is 5:16 hr from Beaune to Sarlat la Caneda, about 1/2 on Autoroutes (divided highway).
The rest of the route is on National Highways, which are well paved and well marked.
It will not be a difficult, all-day trek. I urge you to go.
