Hi: I completly agree with "scdreamer": Tallin was absolutly beautifull but crowded. Some locals & business people in old town appeared to be very unkind. They should be more talkative towards foreigners but they are fed up about them. Finnish people, for instance, are rarely welcome in town! However, there is some other nice people, efficient or even very efficient around. But it's always about money interest there. We didn't have nice experience with bars, restaurants, waiters nor with the 2 of hoteks we stayed in. Bad faces, bad manners, lack of interest at work... Fortunately, the rest of Estonia looks to be nice & not as tourist crowded.

" They should be more talkative towards foreigners"

Excuse me? Someone going about their daily business should stop and have a chat with a complete stranger? I think not. Especially when their town is overloaded with them.

WRT restaurants etc. Tallinn is on the cruise ship circuit, that tends to have a bad effect on service. Plus I have read that Finnish people visit in droves on the weekend because the alcohol is cheaper, not likely to make them welcome, even if that's not why you're there.

Just returned. Again thanks for the useful feedback. I used Percy's notes as a guide (these were great), & would recommend others to do the same. Very nice town, with some locals quite friendly, & others definitely not. I suppose you get that in many tourist areas, although people that we met in the other ports of call were all quite friendly.
