Hotels in Serbia?
As part of my upcoming trip I'll be spending a few days in Serbia in September - I'll fly into Belgrade from Riga, spend three nights and then travel to Novi Sad (train or bus) for another three nights (day trip to Subotica). I'm thinking of finishing with one night in Nis to break the trek to Sofia.
There's precious little on this board about Serbia, but I was hoping someone might have some recommendations for hotels, restaurants/cafes, and possibly an agency in Novi Sad for a day trip to the nearby monasteries. Hotels would ideally be under $80/night for a single, although I could go to $100 if I had to. I suppose I might want AC in early Sept?
Thanks.

We stayed at Hotel Rex a couple years back - not a five star property & the curb appeal could use an updating, but inside is a different story. Spacious, clean room, a very friendly staff that went out of the way to be helpful (English is spoken) and a pretty good on-site restaurant. It's considered city center, but there's maybe a 10-minute walk to put you truly city center. www.hotelrex-belgrade.com might be worth a look.
Belgrade is a surprisingly large & very cosmopolitan city and not all that touristed. Perhaps something to do with not being a part of the EU yet. It's a walkers city, so wear comfortable shoes! You'll have some great meals at great prices.
We'd considered making a day trip to Novi Sad, but found plenty to keep us busy in Belgrade. We did get to the 'old' city of Belgrade, and this was like taking a step back in time. We happened upon a craft fair that was interesting, and enjoyed a great lunch at one of the many restaurants along the Danube.
Enjoy your trip!

There was a comfortable houseboat inn back in the 70's, near the riverport north of the city. In those Tito-days it was less than $20..may not be in business now, just don't know. Wish I could be more informative, Kathy.

Thanks Debs. It's rare to see a hotel with more singles than doubles!
Hi Stu. Don't know if one of these is the one you remember, but check out:
