Hotels in Rome, Venice, Florence

My wife and I are traveling to Venice, Florence and Rome in a few weeks. We need hotel suggestions. Although we have researched hotels intensely we have still not been able to make a decision. We are going in Feb.

We would like feedback on hotels in these three cities. If anyone has any suggestions regarding affordable hotels in the key areas in these cities please let us know. Also, we are not big on the old historic type room with "victorian" everything. A more up to date room is more our style.

Hi Stanton,
I live and work in Rome as a tour guide and know the city pretty well. If you would like to email me direct I would be more than happy to give you some suggestions for hotels in Rome in the historical centre. Please let me know what sort of budget you are on as well. Let me know if I can help with any other general information as well.
Regards
Marianna

We stayed at the Galleria hotel in Venice, and loved it. Inexpensive, tiny rooms, but lots of charm, right on the Grand canal, in a great location. Just a few steps from a Vaporetto stop, and next door to the Academia museum.
