Hotels in Rome

We are looking to spend 4 nights in Rome this October and are looking for a nice classy hotel. Pre-requisites are clean, luxurious, and quiet. Any suggestions?

Martin

I have been planning my first trip to Rome in September so I have been doing a lot of research on hotels. After talking to people who have gone and researching the internet I came up with these luxury hotels

Hassler
Hotel De Russie
De La Ville Intercontinental
Bernini Bristol
Grand Hotel Plaza

We decided on the De La Ville Intercontinental. One word of advise check with a travel agent. They get much better deals than the internet or going direct to the hotel

Have a great time
Martin,

I recently stayed at the Aldrovandi Palace, in Parioli, mostly because I had my two grand kids with me, and wanted a quiet and familiar neighborhood, rather than the hustle and bustle of the historic center. The Aldrovandi is situated on the northern section of the Villa Borghese Gardens, and it's a nice hotel to stay at, mostly in summer, because of the pool. There is, though, a better hotel close by, the Lord Byron, if you don't mind to take a taxi, for a 5 to 10 minutes ride to get to the touristic sites. You can also walk to Piazza del Popolo, or to Via Veneto by crossing Villa Borghese, but it's quite a walk, about two miles.

Here are both web sites:

http://www.lordbyronhotel.com/

http://www.srs-worldhotels.com/italy...el_romald.html

Another hotel I could suggest is the Hotel de Russie. Although quite handy as location, is quiet. It stands at the slopes of Villa Borghese, at its easter section. It belongs to the Forte chain, and was recently refurbished, It's a quite trendy hotel:

http://www.rfhotels.com/italy/rome/d..._derussie.html

Another hotel I can recommend you is the Eden. It's at Via Ludovisi, walking distance of the Spanish Steps:

http://www.hotel-eden.it/

All these hotels have wonderful restaurants, attended by the more upscale Romans, so, you'll be comfortable and well taken care of in any of them.

Best wishes,

Surlok

Hi,

I'd just like to add a little warning here... As has been mentioned on the forum before, a four or five star hotel in Rome would not merit the same award in the States. We recently returned from the Eden Hotel, which is at least as highly rated as the other luxury hotels you mentioned, and were given a tiny room with a lumpy bed and poor air conditioning for a lot of $$$. Luckily, we were on business, and didn't have to shell out the whole thing ourselves, but to say that we were shocked is an understatement. Our room was about as big as a small hall closet in an average-sized house. Talking to others we met in Rome, I heard complaints about the Hotel de Ville as well. They said that it too, had tiny rooms, and could be quite noisy, esp. on the lower floors, which in the front of the hotel, open up on to the Spanish Steps. One thing you might think about: If you join the INtercontinental's Seven Seas Club, it guarantees you a room upgrade and a higher floor when you make a reservation. I believe that they have a website. It might be worth checking! A last point: a friend of ours who lives in Rome, says that the Hotel de Russie is the best luxury hotel in Rome these days, but quite expensive. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that we went by the Bernini Bristol several times. We had thought of staying there, and were glad we didn't. The hotel looked quite dilapidated from the outside. It was surprising!

I didn't recommned the De La Ville, because it's not what I call a quiet hotel, or a quiet street ( Via Sistina).

What you said about the Eden is partially true, some of the rooms are small, but you're likely realizing that the room is smaller when booking it, because is said it is, at least when you book using LHW. There are though, better and larger rooms, with wonderful views of Rome, and the service and amenities are all first to luxury class, depending on the room you are.

The best hotel in Rome now is the St. Regis Grand, but the location is not the most desirable, at least to those who want a quiet neighborhood, or to be in the historic section of Rome.

The Bernini Bristol is a bluff, and the location isn't good either.

Surlok
