Hotels in Mont St. Michel
I have read several posts that extol the wonders of staying overnight in this tiny town to see the monastery after the tourists have departed. I have also managed to find only one hotel with 10 rooms on the mont--the St. Pierre. Is this the only place to stay there? Where else have people stayed? How is the St. Pierre? Sounds minimal but pricey.

Julie
There are hotels on the Mont itself as well as in the small village that lies at the foot of the Mont just at the causeway entry. We stayed in the village at a very nice place with a great view from our room of the Mont illuminated at night. We were there in off-season so many of the hotels/inns in the village were closed for the season. If you are going in high season I suggest making your reservations ahead of time (way ahead of time). The Poulard group runs hotels on the Mont and in the village. Look them up on the web they have a good web page that gives you lots of details.

If you speak French go to this site:
http://www.mere-poulard.fr/

Also look for other sites about lodging at the Mont. Have fun

Our family of four stayed at Auberge St. Pierre in 2000. We were pleased with our stay. Very clean rooms, modern bathroom. Less expensive than La Mere Poulard. Curtious, english speaking staff. They have several restaurants in the hotel. We had a bay view room and it was very quiet. I would stay there again.

There are actually many hotel on the Mont. Here is one listing:

http://www.france-ouest.com/mont-saint-michel/

Look down the page to:
L'hébergement, Intra-muros

We have stayed at the Mere Poulard on Mont. Yes you pay a premium for staying on the Mont, but then you can stay late to eat overlooking the bay, watch the famous tide come in (if high tide matches your visit), walk around quiet streets at night, see the sunset and sunrise from up high, visit the Abbey night exhibit if during the summer. All depend on what is important to you.

When we entered the wall, there was a listing of all the hotels on the Mont and we were surprised that there were that many them. On any web sites I visited and travel books I read, there were no hint that there were that many places to stay.
