HOTELS IN ISTANBUL
We will be in Istanbul in September and are wondering if anyone can give us some idea of the following hotels - Hotel Nomade, Ticarethane Sok, Hotel Empress Zoe, Side Pensione/Hotel or Historia Hotel. Also has anyone any knowledge about Assos Hotel in Assos. Do they have a web site or an email address. They don't answer faxes I have went trying to book a room. Denise
My husband spent a week in Istanbul in early June. He was at the Hotel Nomade and said it was fine. Clean, good breakfast, great location. Only wrinkle was that they wanted payment in cash rather than on a credit card. But room rate was awfully low, about $40 a night, I think.

My best hotel in Istanbul is definitively Empress Zoë. Located in the old part of Istanbul (near Topkapi Palace). Quite cheap hotel for it standards. Good breakfast, service, well decorated and clean. The only problem, which is not hotel’s fault, is electricity. Some power failures are to be expected during the day (the hotel doesn’t have a generator) but may be this has been already solved. From there you can easily walk, as I did, even in the night, to the other of the Golden Horn, where the choice of restaurants is better. Enjoy Istanbul! If you have more questions, send me a mail. You can get to Turkey from a number of places/islands, including Rhodes, for about $40US return (2 1/2 hr trip I believe). Check out www.travelturkey.com, then click on Independent Travel. Thye give routes, prices and schedules for ferries going to a number of places in Greece and back again (I believe). You will probably want to head to Bodrum or Kusadasi (Efes) if you only have 1-2 days these are good enough to see some really nice sites and get a bit of the culture. You can go for the day to Turkey from Kos (we did it the other way round). You may need to pay a fee when you land in Turkey (we did in Greece).

In Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet district,we were elated to find the Sari Konak Oteli. It is a delightful, family run establishment with 17 rooms. The atmosphere was wonderful and the rooms were tastefully decorated and extremely clean. The staff went out of their way to be helpful to guests.A wonderful breakfast was served buffet style every morning in their charming garden. The view of Blue Mosque from the roof is terrific..
Doubles were officially priced at $90 but they offer $10 of discount per night,if the payment is in cash.
ADRESS:Mimar Mehmet Aga Cad.No:42/46
Sultanahmet - ISTANBUL
TEL :+90(212)638 62 58 and 638 62 59
FAX :+90(212)517 86 35
E-MAIL

Thank you all for your assistance. I have got one rather large folder full of information now, so hopefully, when we return mid October, I shall be able to help others. This has been the best source for us in the planning of our trip. thanks all.......Denise
