hotels in Barcelona

We are traveling to Spain in November.Only spending 1 night in Barcelona. We would appreciate a recommendation for an upscale hotel. We have enjoyed the Paradors on other trips. We fly home the next day, but would like the hotel to be a great ending to a wonderful trip we are planning.

Hotel Arts. I went there twice in the last year. It was worth it for me. Check the reviews in the Rants and Raves Section of this website.
The staff was very hospitable. The rooms had very nice views. It will be a long walk from La Rambla or plaza de Catalunya. There is a subway station nearby. I particularly liked the Goyescas restaurant. Anyway, good luck.

I agree with FE. The Hotel Arts is a great hotel. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed at the Claris in April and loved it. Walking distance to everything, great staff, fantastic room.

The Hotel Arts is a great property, but for 1 night you may enjoy the feeling of being a little closer to everything (the Arts is in the Harbor).

We stayed at Hotel Colon last year for four nights (roughly $160/double/night). Wonderful rooms, large modern bathrooms and probably the best location in Barcelona (across from the cathedral and a 5 minute walk to Las Ramblas). Definitely the best buy for a 4-star hotel in Barcelona. See fodors.com's hotel listings for Barcelona for more information.

The Claris is a design hotel, very moden inside, although with some antique pieces of furniture in the rooms, but the decor is very modern and original. The bathrooms are marble made, with bathtubs even in the standard rooms, and is located right in the center of the Eixample Quarter, where nearly all the Gaudi buldings are. It has roof pool, although small, and excellent service and restaurant. It even bosts a small Egyptian Museum. Some rooms, like the executive suites, have Bung - Olafsen (sp?) TV set and CD players. It's undoubetedly my favorite hotel in Barcelona. I highly recommend this hotel.

I've heard that the Ritz Carlton is a fabulous hotel, but I wouldn't choose the Barrio Olympico to stay. It's simply not handy. Since you're staying one night only, maybe you should consider a more central location, so you can stroll around and see a little of this wonderful city.
