Hotel TEATROPACE
Just back from Italy. Stayed at the Hotel Teatropace in Rome. The Hotel is well worth the money paid. Just off the Piazza Navona in an area with many restaurants and shops.
The hotel has four floors and a spiral staircase, no lift. The first room given to us was on the fourth floor. It was just too difficult for my wife to make the climb several times a day. The room was belle, a small balcony, just very nice. We finally compromised to a room on the third floor. I want to emphasize, that all the rooms we saw were very nice.
Breakfast is typical European, but brought to your room at a time you sign for.
The people in the hotel were helpful in terms of information and arranging for some local transportation. TeatroPace is not a full service hotel. There is a website "hotelteatropace.com" It has pictures of the room and rates available. We paid $100 E/day. As you know, the rates will probably start to go up some soon. But right now, I consider it to be more than a bargain. We enjoyed it very much.
We have stayed at the Albergo Portoghesi for the last five years on the other side of the Piazza Navona and like it very very much....but it is much more expensive (prices in line with other hotels in area.)
Want specific info, please feel free to email.

Kslanker, thanks so much. We too always stay at the Portoghesi but wanted to save some money on this trip, so we booked at the TeatroPace.
Your report is very reassuring. Our apartment in Florence is up 3+ floors, and we will be there for a week before Rome, so maybe I'll be in shape. I often stay with my brother in NY, and he too is on the 4th floor with no lift. Quite the climb, but the price is right. ;-)
We will only be in Rome for a weekend, so I'm hoping the steps won't kill me.
Did you eat anywhere nearby that was outstanding?
thanks again

Hurrah! We're staying there March 13 - 16 so more good reviews is a good thing. We knew about the stairs but to remove them from the structure and refurbished old building, replacing it with an elevator, well I can compromise for the beauty! Was it quite central to everything?

My friend just got back from Rome also. She had a single room at the Teatro Pace and loved both her room, the hotel, and the staff alot. She got a winter deal and paid only 70 euro for her single. And she said it was a huge room with an entryway too. I saw a photo of both the room and bathroom and for 70 euro she got a really great deal.
Only caveats she mentioned are the lack of an elevator and desk staff is gone between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. The two reception hosts, Roberto and Fabrizio, were really friendly, and helpful she said. Fabrizio is the one who created the FAQ's on their website and my friend says 'it's a hotel with a sense of humor'.
She also says the word seems to be getting out fast as the hotel was filling up quickly when she was there. I know I'll try to stay here if I get to return to Rome as I want to stay nearby Piazza Navona.
