Hotel Taxes

Just curious as to the tax rate on hotels in Paris. Have heard it is very high, but that is so relative. Anyone have specifics???

There's a VAT tax which is included in the room rate, not added on afterwards. There will be a 6 FF tax per person per day. Some hotels include that also and don't add it on; others add it on afterwards. For more Paris information e-mail me – [email protected]

Whoever told you that probably doesn't know what it is or else consider US$1 a lot of money. The Paris city tax varies by star-rating, I think; it's 6F/day for a 3-star hotel which is where I usually stay, but 5F for a 2-star hotel and 7F for a 4-star. Often it's included in the hotel rates quoted, if not, it must be noted separately. It's not a lot of money, as you can see.

Thank you both for the real scoop. Taxes in NY City just added about $50 a day to a hotel bill, so I just wanted to be prepared if Paris posed a similar situation -- after a week or two, it really starts to add up!!

Probably what your friend meant was the VAT , and it is high ,19.75% ( or 19.5% I forget). But this is already INCLUDED in your room rate, the 6FF /day may or may not be included as Fred pointed out.But that is less than $1.00/day so you shouldn't have any worries
