I stayed at the Hotel de la Place des Vosges about two years ago. Very modest, great location, right off the Places des Vosges. For upcoming trip, found another place nearby called Caron de Beaumarchais, which looks a bit nicer and costs the same! Do a search on this board under marais; there are lots of suggestions, as this seems to be a popular query.

Look into Grand Hotel Francais (www.hotelboulevard.com). Nice hotel, great price.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Jeanne de'Arch last May and have reservations again for this May. The service is friendly and the room and bathroom was clean. That is all we ask for in a budget hotel. The price for double is around $75.00 per night. The area seemed safe and there was a great plaza behind the hotel with several restaurants. Just a great "local" area in general. Not touristy. Try the Hotel de la Bretonnerie in the Marais. Nice location, nice decor, reasonable prices.

The Hotel de la Place des Vosges is much less expensive than the Caron de Beaumarchais, at least for a single. 76 euro as opposed to 128 at the Caron. The Caron looks lovely, but teeny weeny, and is on a super crowded noisy street. Hotel de l Bretonnerie is more lovely, charming,is on a quaint quiet street, and is only 108 for a single.<BR><BR>If you're looking for budget, Jeanne D'arc is fabulous! 54 euro for a single, is adorable, and right off the sweet place Sainte Catherine.
