We are staying at the Hotel Silla in Oct. We read about it in Expedia Travels and also saw it recommended in Karen Brown's Guide. Sounded nice and in a location we thought we would like..near the Pitti Palace.

I also would like to hear from anyone who has stayed there recently.

Thanks!

I stayed there in 1997--not too recently, but it seemed rather ageless so maybe it's about the same. It's a nice hotel in a quiet location. My single room was generously sized and pleasant, though it was a little hot in Oct. because the AC was turned off for the season and the maid kept closing the window. Front desk staff and porters were nice. Wonderful breakfast experience--good buffet served in an airy roof garden. The walk to the center of florence is not too long.

I stayed at Hotel Silla last spring and was a little disappointed. I requested and received a "view room" overlooking the river -- only to find that the room also overlooked a rather busy street filled with screaming scooters and rattling trucks on their way out of town. Non-stop traffic noise all night long. And the view was completely blocked by a line of trees in a park across the street. So the upshot was a noisy room with no view.

Inside, the room itself was nice: cute decor with color-coordinated wallpaper and furniture. But the hallways were cavernous, echoing and had no carpet runners for sound insulation. So the room was constantly echoing with slamming doors, amplified conversations and clattering shoes.

Additionally, the location was a little farther from the sights than I would have liked. This would have been fine if the trade-off had been a tranquil setting -- but it wasn't.

On the upside, the staff was perfectly charming and breakfast was vast and tasty. Did I hate my stay there? No. Would I stay there again? No, unless, maybe, I could find a quieter room. The hotel was okay but for me didn't live up to its hype. Next time I'll look for accomodations closer to the Ponte Vecchio.

Stayed there this July and loved it. We had one of the bigger rooms (quad). Lots of room with a huge entry foyer, spacious room, plus a separate space for exta bed (my daughter was very happy about having her own room), and really big bathroom with a tub and a shower. Very clean/spotless hotel and a good breakfast on an outside terrace with lots of flowers. Friendly staff, 5 minute walk to Ponte Vecchio.
