Hotel Seiler - Rome

Hi all - Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Seiler in Rome? I am looking to book with them and would like any additional information prior to booking. I have looked on Venere and a couple of sites and haven't found much. Also, they are requesting I send my reservation request (including credit card number) via email or fax, I won't email it, is fax safe?

http://www.hotelseiler.it/1,1.html

Thanks!

I haven't stayed there, and it is not the area that I would prefer to stay in, but the request for confirmation with credit card number is quite normal.

I have lived dangerously in the past and sent such information by email, but a fax is certainly safer. Or you can send two emails, with the first numbers of your credit card in one email and the remainder in a second email.

I'm not convinced a fax is any safer than e-mail since, like e-mail, you have absolutely no idea who is looking at the fax at the other end....if you are concerned for card safety, email the details in two separate emails.

Great idea, I didn't think about that!

Eloise - since you mentioned it, where would you prefer to stay? I have stayed near the Coloseum and near the Vatican but never in this area...

Thanks again!!

We had seen the Seiler on the internet and didn't like it. We made a reservation at a B & B and were bumped. They put us in the Seiler. It was horrible. Just like I thought. The rooms were filthy.....it was horrible. Not only wouldn't I stay there, I'll never make a reservation at the B&B either. The usual hotel we stayed at was full.

My preferred area is the historical center, defined roughly as within or close to the triangle between Campo de Fiori, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona.

I've seen a few good reviews recently of the Hotel Campo de Fiori, including on Concierge.com, the super-snobbish Web site of the super-snobbish CN Traveler. It should not be much more expensive than the Hotel Seiler.
