Any "reasonable" 3 star hotel/b&b/inn recommendations in Paris, especially close to the river? <BR>Thanks so much!

Search this site, try other sites, go get some good guidebooks, read the travel magazines. You will find plenty of information.

You may wish to investigate the Caron de Beaumarchais in the Marais, and Deux Iles and Lutec on Ile St. Louis. All get great reviews, and all are in the 4th arrondissement (you'll hear from fans of the 5th and 6th). I've stayed at the Caron de Beaumarchais and at the other two hotels on Ile St. Louis.(One a 4*, the other I would not recommend.) <BR>All are in the 4th arrondissement, which has great charm. Close to numerous attractions such as the river,Notre Dame,Saint Chapelle, Bertillon's Vosges, Picasso museum and Pompidou Center, and many very good boutiques, restaurants, bars and other areas of interest.

perhaps so, but it's still a good answer to this one! <BR>they don't have 3 star B&Bs; they don't hardly have any B&Bs in Paris, the ones that exist are not in the official hotel system and thus not rated by stars (see www.parisbandb.com); I would not recommend a B&B as a good choice in a very large city; I don't think they are regulated much. <BR> Here's one: Hotel Parc St Severin in the 5th.

Christina: We had a look at the Parc Saint-Séverin. Very nice. Very quiet. Renovated. Close to the Seine opposite church Saint-Séverin. If I remember well, infos can be found at <BR>www.esprit-de-france.com <BR>However, doubles run from FF 660.- to FF 1100.-, FF 1600.- with a terrace, some with Notre-Dame view! <BR> <BR>A budget place would be Hotel "Du Lys"**, 23, Rue Serpente, 6th, métro: Saint-Michel.

Hi Monica, <BR> <BR> My favorite hotel is the Hotel Madison in the 6th Arrondisement. The location is perfect, located right across the street from the Saint Germaine de Pres Church.

Second the recommendation for the Hôtel Duquesne. Been staying there for more than 20 years, along with stays at the less expensive Hôtel de France on the Boulevard de la Tour Maubourg about a block away.

Monica, <BR>It would be helpful to know when you plan to visit Paris. For the better hotels, you will need at least a few months lead time or you, like many others, will find that the efforts you have made to pick well have been wasted. Three-star Paris hotels in more attractive neighborhoods will run between $100-$200 per night. Of the hotels mentioned above, my favorite is the Hotel Madison. Very hard to get into, though. Although it's possible to get a hotel near the Seine, most visitors to Paris would probably prefer a nice neighborhood to a river view. (There used to be a floating hotel, but I don't know if it still exists.) One further note: Most of the posts you will find here are legitimate, though occasionally I suspect there may have been self-serving notes put up by the hotels themselves. What's more, rumor has it that at least one of the travel guides (a less popular one) requires payment for listing. That much said, there are quite a few knowledgeable and helpful people here and when you note a place being recommended by a number of individuals you're probably on the right track. Research and patience is what's required.

Hi <BR> <BR>just got back, and stayed in Hotel Jardin de l'Odeon. right around the corner from l'Odeon, literally. 3 stars, and a double was 885FF per night. <BR> <BR>quite nice, but had more of a holiday inn feel - wasn't sure if you were looking for more 'old world' charm or not. <BR> <BR>incidentally, it was a few doors down from Hotel des Grands Balcons (or something like that?) which I have seen much about on this board... (if anyone else here likes H des GB, you will know the neighborhood) <BR> <BR>Beth
