Hotel Raphael, Rome

Does anyone have any information or experience with this hotel?

Hotel Raphael has been highly recommend...it's website is impressive and we like it's location. However, many have said the rooms are small, yet well appointed.

How often will we be in our rooms?

We loved our room at the Raphael. Yes, somewhat small, but no smaller than most rooms including the two other 4 star hotels we've stayed in Rome. And we had a huge closet so could put everything out of the way. Beautifully furnished and wonderful staff. When our two friends' flight didn't arrive from the US (SwissAir aborted in Boston between Miami and Zurich when the plane was leaking oil) the hotel canceled their room for the first night, but held it for the other two nights -- no charge. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay there again next time.

I have made comments on this place before, viz it's being owned by mafioso - the ones who were instrumental in the deaths of judges in Sicily in the early 90s. Read Matt Frei's "Italy" for more info.

We stayed at the Raphael about a year and a half ago. If you are looking for a small, luxury hotel with charm in the very best location in Rome, this is it. It was expensive, but we couldn't find any other hotel like it. Try to get breakfast included in your room rate, or eat out. It isn't worth the separate cost.
There is so much to see and do in Rome, you won't want to spend any time in your room. But when you are exhausted, the Raphael is a nice place to come home to.
