Hotel Near Eiffel Tower/Champs Elysees
I know this question has been beaten to death in this forum but here it goes again. We are going to Paris in March for 2 days and 1 night. Would like to find a hotel near (between) the Eiffel Tower or Champs Elysees for under $100 (currently 650FF) per night. As we have no idea what we are going to do yet, we would like to be within walking distance of a metro. Since we are only staying one night, we just want something safe and clean. A hotel with a bar/lounge would be preferable also. Thanks for any info. and if you have a fax # that would be WONDERFUL!!

I just returned from 2 weeks in Europe and stayed at the Mercure-Tour Eiffel on Rue de Grenelles. It's about a 10 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower and the Dupleix Metro is, literally, across the street. The hotel is nothing quaint or fancy but clean and the service was excellent. Having the metro right there can get you anywhere in Paris within minutes. I was on a package deal through GoGo Tours so I don't know exactly how much but it's a 3-star hotel. Good luck, Paris is a wonderful city.

3 yrs ago we stayed at the Holiday Inn Garden Court Paris-Tour Eifel at 102 blvd de Grenelle which sounds very much like the previous hotel Mercur--perhaps they changed names since we were there. It was very clean and our room 204 looked out towards the Tower--easy Metro and easy walking--would very much recommend it--very small bar area but you will go other places for that. Felt very safe. Their phoneat that time was 40.59.90.90 fax 45.75.79.10

You may wish to check out Le Parc de la Muette Hotel. Not for everyone (no room service, for example), but well located in the 16th near Musee Marmottan. Upscale and gorgeous neighborhood. It's a hotel/bar/restaurant (terrific, and cheap food, bargain "menu") owned by the utterly charming M. Coudy who is the expert in all things. Very accomodating to Americans! There's no front desk and no "hotel" layout exactly (no elevator), as the rooms are the several floors above the restaurant. But, the rooms (we received a "tour" looked quite comfortable, all have private baths and the decor is nice enough - especially for the rock bottom prices - 400F when we peeked in 9/96. Discovered this and filed away for future reference when we happened to pop in for lunch. Actually, M. practically dragged us in off the street! It's a lovely stroll to Trocadero, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe with a beautiful park along the way. Next time we have the urge to grab one of the bargain airfares on short notice we will definitely try to book here first.

In 95, we stayed at the Grand Hotel Leveque which is about 6 very pleasant walking blocks from the Eiffel. It was around $95 for a triple with bath. It is on a lovely market street. It is recommended by Rick Steves (Europe thru the Backdoor) and was also featured in National Geographic Traveler. If you are really interested, email me and I'll try to dig up the address and telephone.

Mike, I saw your message about the Grand Hotel Leveque and was wondering if you could provide the address and other details you can remember. I am going to Paris in April and am very interested in staying at a hotel that I know something about prior to booking. Thanks much!

Last year we stayed at the hotel Prince De Galles on Ave. George V (right next to Hotel George V). The hotel was quite elegant but very convenient. The hotel was less than10 mins to Arc de Triumphe, about 2 blocks from Champs Elysee and 10-15 from the Eiffel tower. The metro was a block away and the area was very safe with many restaurants. We liked the Rue Clair (Spelling) area near the Eiffel Tower. I suspect the hotel was fairy expensive (we didn't pay for it), but check it out-we had a huge king size room-very elegant! Bon Voyage-its a great place to visit! Sharon

Grand Hotel Leveque is located at 29, rue Cler, 75007 PARIS. Phone 47.05.49.15 Closest Metro stops are Ecole Militaire and Latour-Mauborg. Located smack in the middle of a street market, offering the chance to assemble a meal by roaming shop-to-shop (or stall-to-stall). The hotel is very clean and friendly, not elegant by any stretch.

Without question the place you want is Hotel du Champs de Mars at 7,rue du Champs de Mars. It is a top recommendation of Rick Steves. We spent a week there last Sept. It is just off Rue Cler a geat pedestrian market street. Maximum room rate is 420FF well below your 650 budget. We stayed on the fourth four on the back side. It was very quiet. Room are small be very comfortable. The young French couple that own it are very nice. It is listed in Fodor's Hotels of Character and Charm in Paris. Their phone is 33/1 45.51.52.30 an Fax is 33/1 45.51.64.36. The metro is Ecole Militaire about 2 blocks away. You are in easy walking distance to the tower and the river. There is a post office 1 bock away with ATM.

I have stayed twice at the Hotel Montaigne on the Ave.Montaigne.It's off the Champs Elysees, very close to the river (Pont Alma)and across the river from the Eiffel Tower. Tube 20 metres away (Alma Marceau ) and bus service in the street.Good priced restaurants in the streets around it. It was excellent value because it doesn't have all the facilities. Has room service and breakfast and lovely lounge. Staff speak English.
It's an elegant and beautiful hotel with excellent size rooms. Can't remember the cost but it's 4 star. I think about $US 150 per night per room.
The Ave Montaigne is the home of the haute couture designers -Dior,Givenchy etc. - so lovely areas to browse!
Travel agents know it. Good luck.
