Hotel Intercontinental Paris- Two Questions

Hi, we are contemplating the Intercontinental for our Holdiay stay. First question, anyone have any experiences worth sharing? Secondly does anyone know how close the hotel is to the nearest Metro station - we are contemplating the train/metro from CDG. Thanks

The Intercontinental Hotel is nearer to US standards than French standards. The area is near the old Opera House and the major departments stores. In that price range there are better hotels in Paris in that area or in many other areas. For example the Ritz. Unless you have a free room or sombody else is paying for it why would you pay up to 3,000F for a room and want to take the RER?. For about 350F including tip you can take a taxi. Anybody that is coming in on an overseas flight, that is unfamiliar with Paris, and who doesn't speak the language does not want to take the RER with luggage after flying all night long unless he cannot afford otherwise.

Hey Louis Don't be so presumptous in your post. Since Im staying for two weeks at 2300 francs per night, it would be logical to assume we could afford a taxi. You also assume we can't speak the language and have never been to Paris before both of which are also untrue. We happen to enjoy the train and thought it might be a good way to start our journey as opposed to rush hour traffic. So again I ask do you know how far the nearest metro station is to the Intercontinental because I can't recall. Thank You <BR>

The nearest Metro stations are Havre Caumartin and Chausee D'Antin. Both are on Boulevard Haussmann within a block or so. I don't think that line has a good connection to the RER. The A train on the RER has a station at Auber which is within in a block of the hotel. It would appear that you could transfer to an A train at Chatelet-Les Halles. Since you can speak french you can ask at the RER if that is your best connection. Also, the Roissy Bus goes from CDG to Opera which is very near your hotel. If you run a search for the Hotel Intercontinental on the forum for France you will find some comments about your hotel. I hope you enjoy your vacation.

I assumed that you meant the Grand Hotel Inter-Continental at 2 rue Scribe. I just remembered that there is another Inter-Continental a 3 rue Castiglione. If this is the case your nearest metro station is Tuileries. If you took the RER B train your best connection is still at Chatelet-Les Halles to the No. 1 meto line in the direction La Defense. There would be a long underground walk between the two lines. If you took the bus to Opera you would be about 7 blocks from your hotel. I am sorry if I have gotten the two hotel confused.
