Hotel in Porto

I am extending my September river boat cruise with a 2 day stay in Porto. Looking for recommendation for a 3 or 4 star hotel within walking distance of town and the wine caves.

I think the two most obvious choices for central town location would be the Pestana (right on the water in converted houses, very charming) or the Hotel da Bolsa (about 5 minutes away on foot near the old stock exchange, which is a destination in itself).

I haven't stayed in the Pestana, it was full when we went, but it looked really nice. We stayed in the Bolsa, it's a little faded in its charm but perfectly adequate and a great location. You can easily find links to both on google. I would bet the Pestana is over 150E a night and the Bolsa under 100E.

You'll love Porto. LR

Last July we stayed in Melia Gaia Porto 4+ starts
$100/night (used Expedia.com)
This hotel is new and business oriented. Best breakfast on the trip with great variety of items; efficient staff.
Our room was very large with huge bed (two queen size beds under same headboard).
It’s located on the caves side. We hired taxi from caves (less then 4 E) and to the center of Porto & train station (5E).
At this price will definitely book it again.

Have you taken a look at the www.gooporto.com site? There are several accommodation options there. I'd recommend Pestana Porto.
