We are looking for a special place for one night in or near Cortona. Hotel San Michele is booked already. Any price is fine - we just want an atmospheric place we will remember at the end of the trip rather than just a hotel in which to rest our heads. Any suggestions?

Relais Il Falconiere is a beautiful property at the foot of the town...very atmospheric with a fine restaurant.

I concur, IL FALCONIERE, a relais chateaux is the very best there, fabulous location, lovely rooms, great people and of course gourmet food if you want that with the town only 5 minutes away! If that is booked then IL MELONE would be my next choice also great and not quite so expensive.

One more vote for Il Falconiere. We stayed in one of the least expensive rooms and it was wonderful. The setting is perfect - a beautiful area.
We would return in a heartbeat. The food is excellent. Easy to do day trips from this location - however, we hated to leave the property. Think you would be very happy with this choice.
