Hotel in Munich

My boyfriend and I are looking for a Munich hotel right in the middle of the action! One that is fancy and hip but not more than 200 Euro a night. We want to party like young professionals lol. Obviously the cheaper the better but we want to stay somewhere nice. We've traveled to Europe before and have always stayed in the cheapest hotels to save money so this time we would like something fancy. Does anyone have any suggestions? He has new car that we'll have to park somewhere safe.

Have you checked the Fodors or Frommers books or their online Munich recommendations? You might do that first, come back to the board with a few options and ask for feedback as to which might be best.

Another option for finding out some things on your own first would be to type in the words "Munich Hotels" in the search box on this page, then click search. You'll then see hundred or more threads talking about Munich hotels.

Check out the Platzl Hotel. It is right by the Hofbrauhaus and close to the Marienplatz and Viktualiemark.

If you can get a deal on it, the Dorint Sofitel Bayerpost, right by Central Station is pure bliss IMHO. Great showers in the bathrooms, nice modern design behind a classic facade, comfy beds, a spa area that is really impressive (check out their pool!) and one of the best breafasts I have ever experienced in a hotel.

Other than that, right in the center, just steps from Marienplatz and Maximilianstr., there is Hotel Cortiina which is also a design-oriented hotel. It also features a bar that is pretty popular for the local in-crowd. I have stayed at the Dorint Sofitel only, but the Cortiina gets rather favourable reviews, too.

Le Meridien is right across the street from the Dorint Sofitel and the main train station and is also new and modern.

I don't know if I could say it was "in the middle of things" as I haven't spent much time in Munich, but the room was quite large, with plasma TV, marble bath (separate shower and tub) and the service was excellent. I believe we paid about 125 euro last spring.

A new car? Assuming that you'll be there for a BMW European Delivery, taking your brand new Bimmer into the Marienplatz area is something you probably may want to re-consider.

When we picked ours up, we stayed near Leopoldstrasse (in the Schwabbing area) as hotels there have better parking facilities and the roads are not alley-wide like they are in Marienplatz.

Good luck and enjoy your new car.

Ciao000:

The Platzl (http://www.platzl.de/english/index.html) meets all of your criteria. I've stayed there many times, including when I pick up a new Bimmer a couple of years ago. It's an up-scale regional style hotel located a couple of blocks from Marienplatz, across from the Hofbrauhaus. They have their own underground parking garage with elevators going directly up into the hotel. Notice that they have rooms facing the Hofbrauhaus, which may be a bit noisey at times, at a lower rate than rooms facing other adjoining streets. We usually stay on the Hofbrauhaus side and the 'noise' has never bothered us at all. In fact in the early evening it lends a certain Munich ambiance to the scene!
