I'll be spending a few days in London after a tour through Scandanvia. I'd love to find a lovely old hotel in the theater district, so that I can take advantage of taking in a few plays before heading back to the States. I don't want to break the bank, but would like to find an older, charming hotel for 3 older females. Thank you for your help.

Hi Sharon, I just got a great deal with Priceline, for the Thistle Charing Cross hotel...105$ a night! It has a great location, and I am thrilled. It was a kind of scary, but my parameters were Soho/Mayfair 4 star, and voila.... I got it! Whew..... Judy

My mother and I are planning an upcoming trip and would also like to see some plays. Any other suggestions? I know my mother would love to stay in a grand old hotel while in London, since my father typically takes her along on business trips in the US where they stay in modern hotels.

One of my co-workers will be in London for the Queen's Jubilee. I tried to sway him into staying in the Moravia district of London, because it is close to both Victoria Coach Station and the Victoria Train Station, and only a 10 minute bus ride to Trafalgar Square. I also suggested this because the Moravia district is within walking distance of Buckingham Palace. The B&Bs in this area are fairly priced and quite charming. <BR><BR>However, my co-worker borrowed my Frommer's Guide to London, and found a great hotel close to the theatres. He thought it would be better to be within walking distance of his hotel in the evening, as he plans on taking in a show each evening. He's staying at the Fielding Hotel (Frommer lists it as unique in location for a inexpensive hotel) -- it's in Covent Gardens across from the Opera House and right in the middle of the theater district. He got a rate of 78 pounds per night for a single room.

I'm just back from London, Stayed in Hotel Strand Palace,fantastic location, most of the theatres in 2-5 min walking distance.It was very cheap single for 45 gbp for weekend,80 gbp for other days.Room is small,but not smaller then single rooms in other htls,bath is clean,included English breakfast was satisfactory.

Maddie,<BR><BR>If your mother wants to stay in a "grand hotel" in London near the theatres, I suggest the Savoy. It's a great old London tradition, and steps from the theatre district.<BR><BR>PS It's across from the Strand Palace, which is also nice, but cheaper and more ordinary.
