Hotel in Berlin

Hello,
I would like some advice for a hotel in Berlin. We are a young couple, looking for a charming hotel (maybe in Tiergarten / Mitte?), for 4 nights in the end of June.
Would you book it directly or try to find something nice (and with a good price) in Priceline?
Thanks a lot

I am all for saving money and foregoing charm if need be.. so I , personally, would check out winnings at www.betterbidding.com and see what I could get a 4-5* for in the area you want on Priceline. After checking, of course, travelzoo.com and your traditional booking agents as well as www.hotwire.com.

We did Priceline in Berlin several years ago and got the Art´otel in the Charlottenburg district. It was just off of K´damm and it suited us pretty well. I think we paid a measly $45 or so. It was rated a 4 star and was modern, good service and decently located. Next time I am in Berlin, I will stay in a different district though, probably Mitte. But still...for $45 it was a great deal and I have no regrets.

I can personally recommend the Sol Melia on Friedrichstrasse. This hotel is in an ideal location, and is brand new. Museum Island is just around the corner. You are a 10-minute walk from the Brandenburger Tor and the Reichstag. Checkpoint Charlie is also a short walk down Friedrichstrasse.

The great thing about the location of the hotel is that the Friedrichstrasse Bahnhof is just across the street. There is a grocery store and plenty of coffee/takeaway places in the bahnhof.

If you walk down Friedrichstrasse, you will see Starbuck's, Dunkin' Donuts, and other places to grab a cup of coffee and a snack.

If you are into luxury shopping, Galleries Lafayette is just down the street from the Melia.

Cheers, sweetie darling,

Take a look at tablethotels.com for a selection of design oriented hotels in different price brackets. Their Berlin selection is quite good.
If you want to state a budget, it will be easier to comment.
For charming in Mitte, I would look into the De Rome, the Sofitel, Kunsthotel Luise, Camper could be an option - and, of course, the new Soho House.

Not sure how you define "charming", but if that should mean something smaller or more intimate or individual, you could check this out:

Bit more funky, but still low-end budget:

But stating a budget and comfort level sure makes it easier to give advice.

we stayed at ackelhaus and loved it! it was adorable and stylish, in a great neighborhood, and reasonably priced. here is the website:

www.ackselhaus.de

there are lots of great local restaurants and shops in the neighborhood and the area doesn't feel touristy at all, but it is a 5 minute cab from the major tourist attractions in the center.
