I have stayed at the Familia 3 twice and have been happy and content each time. Eric, who owns the hotel along with his parents, speaks fluent English as well as Spanish and of course French. The entire staff goes out of their way to be helpful and do anything they can to make you comfortable. The rooms are typical small Paris hotel rooms, but quite comfortable. I happen to love the showers as they actually have some water pressure to them. it is in a great area, walking distance to Notre Dame, the Pantheon, Ile St. Louis. Also there is a Metro stop 1 block away - Jussieu(SP?). Have never stayed at the Grand Ecole but I think it looks really nice, I hear that it is hard to get a reservation there. Good Luck, I think either will be a great choice.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Des Grandes Ecoles for ten days in November. We loved it. A good location; near several Metro stations; reasonably priced; friendly, competent staff; good security. They have a web site; < www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75005ecoles.htm >
You can book it on-line or call the lovely Marie who speaks English.
Have a great trip
