Hotel gave me their bank account #!

I don't plan to go with this hotel, but a place in Corfu gave me their bank account number to deposit a deposit on a room. This is very odd, no?

I've transferred money to two hotels this way to secure a reservation for a room, it's not that unusual.

We've done the same thing for a couple of places in Mexico. One even had a Canadian bank account, so I was able to actually deposit to it. The other was a bank in the US, so I sent a bank draft to them.

In many countries in Europe, it is very normal to give your bank account number. For example, we don't use checks here in the Netherlands, so the only way for anybody to pay me is via a transfer to my bank account. Much more convenient than a check.

This does happen sometimes. I make it a point to never stay anywhere that they require money to be deposited in their bank account. Too many wonderful hotels, etc. that don't require that type of deposit. I think it is foolish and high risk to deposit money in a strangers bank account.
