Hotel for 1 short night in Milan?
We will be spending a day and night in Milan after we come back from a Mediterranean cruise. Our plane leaves early the next day and we would like a suggestion for a hotel that is not more than a 1/2 hour to Malpensa Milan airport. However, we will have a long day in Milan for the sights. So we want to stay in an interesting area. Any suggestions? Any must sees in Milan or restaurants? Thanks!

Malpensa is at least 45 mins from Milan, so you can't have it both ways:
either stay in Milan and plan for an hour trip to the airport, or stay near the airport and pay cab fare into Milan.

Milan is not a pretty city; it was pretty much bombed out during WWII, and has been rebuilt into an industrial city. Worth seeing: the Duomo; The Last Supper (you need advanced ticket reservations); LaScala and the opera museum; Victor Emanuelle Galeria.

I would say all the same things as Elvira, but call the Milan "glass" half "full" - - not half "empty".

It's a great city for a day, just not so much for more than that.

And I say, just deal with getting up and paying for that early a.m. cab. for aplce to stay in th city, we were more than happy with Hotel Piacenza for a one day stay. Found it on www.italyhotel.com - - a terrific and reliable site for plenty of other (more expensive - - ans perhaps some less expensive) choices as well.

Best wishes,

Rex

Same option as above; we stayed at the Tulip Arizona, which is as near Malpensa as you can get but still be on the tram route. It was fine- clean, not fancy, a/c, en suite, big car park easy to find (but get directions from someone who speaks English!)

Recommend the Accademia Breda. Little known and excellent
