Hotel Des Artists - Safe Area??

My friend and I are going to Rome in November on a package deal. This hotel sounds like what we want, but I'm not sure about the location. Northeast of Termini. Does anyone know the area and is it a safe one for two women to stay in. I'm sure we'll be doing a lot of walking, even at night. Please advise if you know the area and thanks for your help in advance.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel on our budget honeymoon in November 1999. We enjoyed it a great deal (and it was a great deal at $60 a night). The neighborhood is slightly seedy and quiet at night, as compared to the Spanish Steps neighborhood, but we felt safe walking to and from restaurants late at night. I'm not sure about how safe it is for single women, however - I guess it depends on your attitude. There is a subway stop around one block from the hotel so you don't have to walk far through the neighborhood. And I think violent crime is italy is rather low, anyway.

Feel free to email me with any questions about the hotel or Italy - I love talking about my honeymoon, since we had a fantastic time. Now that I have a one month old son I doubt I'll be getting back to Italy for a few years.

Our family stayed at the Des Artists last June for 3 nights, along with another family with 2 children (13 & 11). We didn't have any problems at all. However, we weren't going out late at night either, there were 8 of us walking together and my husband is 6'5" tall. There were restaurants around the corner and the subway was indeed a block away. I thought the area was pretty quiet compared to other areas we walked through.

Personally, if my girlfriend and I had wanted to go out at night by ourselves, I would have stayed close to the hotel and not gone too far. There were several places to choose from.

But how sad to feel confined to a few block area near the train station at night in Rome! Even if you must stay at this hotel, go out at night--go to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Campo dei fiori, the Campidoglio, the Trevi Fountain--all areas full of people and life and beautiful sights to see until the wee hours. By all means take a cab back to your hotel near the station, but don't stay in at night in Rome.

We stayed at Hotel Des Artiste in July of last year. It was wonderful. It's about a 10 minute walk from the Termini. There was no worries for us at all and I was a mother with her 3 sons. I highly recommentd it. Vicki
