Hotel Champs De Mars

Based primarily on the recomendation in your guide to Paris, I've reserved a room at the Hotel Champs de Mars. Given the low cost relative to others I've heard of I have some concerns. We are not after Ritz accomadations, but what does this place lack? The paris guide is the third of your publications we've puchased and have really found them dependable (especially New Orleans). That said If you could elaborate a bit on this hotel.

Thanks

This is a great little hotel -- a little further from the St.-Germain-des-Pres area than I prefer -- but run well by nice people. You shouldn't have a concern.

Well, you're not going to be alone because Rick
Steves recommends this hotel in his guidebook,
so it will probably be full of Americans/ETBDers.
I've never stayed there, but have seen good
recommendations for it in several guidebooks--at
least for the level it is. It's only a 2-star hotel, so
will not be fancy and may lack some amenities.
The main thing I've heard is the rooms are very
small, even for Europe.

I just returned from Paris on Friday, having stayed a week at the hotel. I loved it and would definitely stay there again. In fact, I hesitate to recommend it too highly, as it would almost be a shame for it to become too popular. It is a steal for the price. Our room was decorated in blue and yellow provincial prints with the ubiquitous french windows opening to the street and was small but cozy for two people and very, very clean. The bathroom was done with bright white tile and modern fixtures and fluffy towels and was also very clean. The worst part about the room was that the shower sprayer sprayed out to the sides soaking the bathroom, so we had to wash our hair underneath the tub faucet which required a few gymnastics to complete. The owner and everyone who works at the hotel is extremely friendly. A small but elegantly served breakfast is available for 35 francs. We also enjoyed the 7th arr. and found it easy to get around from the Ecole Militaire metro stop nearby. If you are looking for something on par with the Ritz, this hotel is not it and you will be disapointed. If you are looking for a small, well priced charming french hotel then you should be very happy.

I have just made reservations at this hotel and the owners were so incredibly nice on the phone. You can look up the hotel on the page www.france-hotel-guide.com then click on 7e for that location. Rick Steves has wonderful things to say about that neighborhood. We're very excited about it
