Hotel around Russell Square - Safe?

This is my first time in London, and our party will just be two young females. I found an apartment that is located in Russell Square, around the British Museum - is this area safe? Is this area noisy at night?

It's the area I usually stay in when visiting London, as it has excellent transport links. By London standard it's as safe an area as any in the centre. Traffic noise isn't too bad, as there are a lot of traffic lights to keep speed down and it's not on a major throughroute. There are quite a lot of people about at night, but it's away from busy entertainment district and apart from hotels there are many offices and university buildings, so noise level is reasonable. You should exercise more caution away from Russel Square towards Kings Cross, which borders on Red Light area. But sensible precaution should avoid most problems.

My daughter stayed at Jurys Great Russell St Hotel, it was a great location for her alone with a young child. She said that she always felt safe walking home at night with her son, the restaurants around there were very good, in fact, read Thrilled to go to London post, I will top it for you!<BR>Have a great time in London~Mom

Thanks for the replys! I had another question - how is the area at night at St. Pancras station? I'm going on a day tour and the tour arrives back in St. Pancras station around 7-8 at night - should I be wary?

St Pancras station is on the main Marylebone road and you should be quite safe. You can either take a short taxi ride (&pound;5 max) or take the tube (Underground) which, at that time, will also be safe.
