Hostellerie du Vigan - Albi
I am trying to book a room at this hotel after reading favorable reviews here, but no response to my "contactez nous". Has anyone booked this place online? As they have no English version of their website, I'm wondering if they haven't answered because of language. I understand some French, but wanted more details on the rooms, rates, etc. As it seems to be the only place right in the centre of town, I really would like to get through to them. As we will be stopping briefly enroute from the Dordogne to Provence, at least we can eat and wander before bedtime if we are central.
Any thoughts or other hotel suggestions?

Hello, blowfish. Some of my group stayed at the Vigan last June. They didn't have enough rooms available with AC (this was during the heat wave) so some of us went to the Mercure. I don't know why you haven't had a response from them - I doubt it's a language problem - but here is another e-mail you might try: [email protected]
If you are booking for this summer, do ask for a room with AC. If there is something on their website you'd like to have translated, I'd be happy to help with that.
If you can't get in touch with them, there are two other hotels very near the center that I can recommend: the Hotel Chiffre, also a 3 star, http://www.hotelchiffre.com/chiffre-gb.html (This was actually my first choice, but they were full for my dates.)
And the 4 star Hostellerie Saint-Antoine, http://www.saint-antoine-albi.com/ Both websites have an English version.
Albi is one of my favorite towns in France, (I once spent a school year there and have returned several times.)so if I can help with anything else just let me know.
Bon voyage!

I agree with Betty about Albi...great town. Be sure to see the gardens on the back of Toulouse Laterec Museum. The Hostellerie San Antoine is a good hotel and is very well located. The Mercure is OK, but on the other side of the river.

Merci beaucoup Betty and Ron!
Forget Vigan, both the places you recommended look much nicer. I have just sent reservation requests to them both, and will see how attentive they are. The San Antoine has a 69 euro special popping up, so I have my fingers crossed. Four star Frence hotels just don't cost 69 euros any more. I will make sure to see the garden behind the TL museum. Thanks again

I have tried repeatedly to get an e-mail response (both in English and French) for my reservation request made to Hostellerie du Vigan. I originally called the hotel and they requested my VISA number be e-mailed to hold the room. Not sure where I stand at this moment. Folks seem to be pleased with the hotel but business correspondence is not their strength!

jreel, I guess the folks at Vigan just don't need the business, although I'm beginning to wonder whether it's an affliction of the whole town. Not a word from Saint-Antoine or Chiffre, so time will tell. I'll let you know if and when I hear. The Antoine is a little closer to the church than Chiffre, and if the 69 euro 4 star room comes through, you might want to try them.

Sorry, I forgot to let anyone interested know that Saint Antoine did come through, and we are booked there for October.
Jreel, If you still haven't heard from Vigan, do check this place out. It looks much nicer, and I was able to get the 69 euro special - parking is another 6.5 euros per day. Have a look www.hotel@san-antoine-albi.
Happy travels!

Congratulations, blowfish, on getting that 69€ special at the Saint-Antoine. Being a 4-star property, it is normally a good deal more expensive than the 3-star Vigan or Chiffre. You should be happy with the location as it is just off the Place du Vigan and a short block down the rue St. Antoine. The additional distance from the cathedral is negligible. Have a drink or perhaps breakfast at the Grand Cafe Pontie right on the square.
Small correction on the URL - it is www.saint-antoine-albi.com and the e-mail is [email protected]
Enjoy Albi! (Wish I were going back there this year!)

Hi blowfish..we stayed in Albi last year. The hotel was adequate so won't bother mwentioning that further. I had never heard of Albi ..we stayed there as it was half way between Avignon where we drove from to get to our little house in a Provencal village. What an eye opener..a lovely place and as mentioned above make sure you go outside the cathedral at the back to look at thegarden area overlooking the river.
