AAFrequentflyer,
I guess I'm a novice, but I can't find how you managed to get these fares to come up. I went to expedia, and put in atl as starting, and rome fiumicino as ending....when I specify air canada it brings up prices at $1400. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Patricia

Like I always say. You see something you like, grab it. It may be gone next time you look. Airfares are very fluid. Almost like a commodity. Up and down all day long, and just like the futures game, nobody can predict when, why and how.

AAFrequentflyer,
You were checking direct from Atl to Rome right? (maybe I'm doing this wrong)--did you specify the connection at all, or did it just come up in browsing? I'll keep looking, and maybe prices will go back down. I read somewhere that sales drop to lowest 40 days from flight date. Is this true?
Thanks much!!
Patricia

Patricia,
You have to price two different trips. Gp to aircanada.com to price ATL-LHR, and then go to Alitalia site to price LHR-FCO.
Although, the AirCanada thing might be gone as per the above post.

I went on bestfares, and in the upper right hand corner (new fares for april 02 --most current//only today)...it shows a sale for 30 cities to london! From Atl-London it would be $368 before tax...and then I'm wondering if I priced another ticket on Alitalia from Lhr to Rome (about $200). Maybe that would give me the best possible deal? (unless tickets to London drop even lower than that?) What do you all think?
Thanks!
Patricia
Thanks!

I'm not familiar with best fares -- but is what they advertise actually available? I mean, I've had lots of experiences where I price out an itinerary and it's much more expensive than what was advertised. If you can still get that London fare, your fare to Rome does look cheap!

Hi Patricia, I live in NYC, so I'm more familiar with NYC to London, but I still think that that fare is quite good.
Not to complicate your life further, was there a reason why you didn't investigate low-cost airlines to Rome? You may be able to get cheaper flights on EasyJet, etc., to Rome from London.
I guess initially you probably had to work with Air Canada's times, but if fly another airline, you may be able to coordinate with EasyJet or a low-cost carrier and get to Italy even more cheaply (but the downside is that you probably have to connect at a different airport).
I'd at least find out if that fare is legit before thinking about it.
And keep looking. I'm traveling in June and I'm planning to wait a week or two before deciding (at my own risk, of course). My trip is a bit more complicated and I haven't decided on the details which is why though I'm tempted by the cheap fares to London I've decided not to buy now.

But Patricia, I didn't want to give you the impression that fares will go down if you wait with that message. What I'm trying to say is that I need to wait because I've not yet been able to finalize my plans. But if you're ready and you think that the fare is good, then get it, because as AA says, fares disappear and you may never see them again.

Hi, I seem to be seeing some of these Air Canada fares on Orbitz again (as of 4:05 EST). By the way, Patricia, if you do want to book, check, for comparison the price of a round-trip ticket to Italy as well. You can get lucky and there may be no need to stop in London.

There is a catch, apparently, to best fares. There is a $60 member fee! But if I continue to use them it may be worth it! I'm not sure I want to spend $60 bucks just to get a good deal on airfare.
Thanks!

Just one more piece of advice. Stay away from BestFares. It's a scam. They advertise the same fares that we told you about here.
Stay AWAY!!!! unless you have money to burn, but if that was the case, why look for the ultra cheap fares to Italy?

Try calling 1800flyeurope. (Get the number off 1800flyeurope.com .) I got this tip from someone here -- I forget who. I haven't used it, but sometimes their fares are quite competitive.
And check online again. As I said, you may still be able to book the Air Canada fare.

as posted by 111op,
Out to curiosity, I tried NYC to LHR for June on Air Canada's website. Cheapest fare now seems to be slightly north of $500
Please don't confuse the issue here. The $500+ fare you got from NYC-LHR is a very normal fare. If you add the taxes it will be around $650 +/- few.
When the sale was on AirCanada was flying you from NYC to LHR for around $300 during the entire summer.
Just about everybody could get you to London from New York for around $650. The original poster was looking for ATL-FCO. With the AirCanada sale she could have flown there from Atlanta for around $650(everything). There is a BIG, difference.
