Honeymooning in England, needing help finding a B&B or guest house.

My fiance and i are planning our honeymoon to England for the last week of May/first of June. We want to stay in a romantic, homey, quite place, in the countryside somewhere. (and we don't want to break the bank!) We are flying into Gatwick, and hope to not have to rent a car. Any suggestions? (We are open to renting a home even.)

This is a good site for booking cottages etc. http://www.stilwell.co.uk/

You would probably need a car, but you could consider Suffolk. It is pretty untouristy and there are some beautiful old villages and towns, such as Lavenham, Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh etc. If you like P.D. James detective stories, she sets many of them on the Suffolk coast. Suffolk is also Constable country. He lived in Flatford and the mill is still there.

In the Cotswolds there is a pretty little village called Stanton and they have a group of stoned cottages that are in the courtyard to the Manor House. They are called Stanton Court Cottages. Have stayed in them and they are wonderful. One in particular is the honeymoon cottage with a sunken living room and loft bedroom. Off the living room thru a door is a private greenhouse, very romantic and quite off the beaten path in the country. The grounds and gardens are beautiful. They do not have a website that I know of, but I can dig up the # if you would like. You would however need a car.

Hi Resa, we will also be in Gatwick in May. I went to the AA. Uk site and found some interesting B & Bs with photos and prices. We chose vulcan-lodge.com. The house itself looked interesting and my respone from karen the owner has been warm and friendly,we even spoke on the phone. We will be at the lodge June 9-10. I have researched not driving , there is good local bus and train available, also express to London only 15 mins. Joyce

Check out a website called www.distinctlydifferent.co.uk

It specialises in unusual buildings which have been converted into guest houses. For example, you could stay in a hay-loft, police cells, an old railway station, a water-mill, lighthouse etc.

You may not be able to get a weekend booking at this late stage but try for during the week.

Oh, and congratualations!!
