Honeymoon Itinerary Advice (Positano, Val D'Orcia, & Rome)

Hi everyone!

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon to Italy for the last week of May and first week of June 2019. Neither of us have been to Italy before, and while we know one day we would love to see the big cities, we feel like our honeymoon might not be the best time to do so. I would really appreciate some input on our tentative itinerary. I know that positano and tuscany aren't conveniently located, but we really would like a mix of the Mediterranean and the country. Any suggestions for hotel stays (ideally no more that $250 a night) are welcome. Restaurants? Here comes the classic question: Is this too much?

May 27: Pittsburgh -> Rome (arrive around 10 am). Train to Naples--> Private car to Positano (arrive around 1 pm?)
Lunch at Buca di Bacco
Walk around town/ Rent a beach chair & relax

May 28: Positano
Early breakfast at Cafe e Bottega
Lunch at D'Adolfo around 12/1. Rent a chair and hang out for the day
Champagne bar at Le Sirenuse

May 29: Poistano
Boat trip to Capri

May 30: Positano
Hike of the Gods (early!)
Fornillo Beach
Dinner at Chez Black

May 31: Positano--> Naples. Naples--> Rome (arrive by 11)
Open day in Rome. Perhaps a cooking class for dinner?

June 1: Rome
Roman Forum an Colloseum
Pantheon
Piaza Nirvada

June 2: Rome
The Vatican
St. Peters Basilica
Trastavere for dinner

June 3: Rome to Chiusi (train). Pick up rental car and drive to Val D'Orcia region (where we will stay. Debating between Pienza and Montalcino, saying Pienza for now.)
Relax at our farmhouse/villa.
Drive into town for dinner

June 4: Pienza
Visit San Quirico in the morning
Montalcino wineries (will have a car, but can we arrange a tour so that we can drink all we like haha?)

June 5: Pienza
Monticchiello & Montepulciano

June 6: Pienza
Half day cooking class? Pool time at our farmhouse/ villa Dinner

June 7: Pienza--> Siena (return car)

June 8: Siena

June 9: Private driver from Siena to Florence airport? Return to Pittsburgh.

Would love recommendations for restaurants in any of the towns/ cities.

Thank you!!

Hi
I think your itinerary sounds very nice. If it were me, and I know it's not, I would spend less in Rome or Siena, where you're spend a shorter time, and spend more in Positano where prices are high but it's your honeymoon.

The only one of these places that I've been to very recently is Rome and by far, our best meal was at one of our old favorites, La Campana, in the Campo Marzio area. Not Trastevere, I know.

Just a note about trains - book Rome-Naples-Rome tickets far in advance yourselves online at Acquista il biglietto con le nostre offerte - Trenitalia or www.italotreno.com - two competing rail systems running trains on that route. Nifty discounts are available but can sell out fast - check www.seat61.com for adroit advice on doing that - general info trains www.ricksteves.com and BETS-European Rail Experts. Rome-Chiusi is regional train that are best bought at station day of travel - I'd consider a car service Rome Airport to Positano if doing one Naples-Positano.
