Honeymoon in Greece, Spain or Portugal???

My fiancé and I are sourcing honeymoon spots in Greece, Spain or Portugal. We would have the 1st 3 weeks in August and aren't sure where to go. We are interested in all 3 places, we can afford to spend approx. $1000 each per week, we want something romantic and cultural but not too busy crazy with tourists. Can anyone help???

Hey Cindy-Lynn.

Honeymoon has to be something quit special - so there is only one place in Europe - beside Paris and Venice - which I can recommend. You have to go to the town of OIA on Santorini in Greece. A lot of places on Santorini have many tourists, that's a fact, but not in OIA. The hotels in OIA are famous for it's fantastic/splendid/overwhealming views over the ocean and for it's small hotels, which are built into the mountains. You should give it a try. While you're there go and visit the island of Folegandros, which is small but quit interesting. 3 weeks here will be to long - but as you know - there are lots and lots of islands. If you want to combine Greece with i.ex Spain - I would recommend that you take a flight to Athen, spend a couple of days, and then a boat to Hydra - which is a very romantic nice islands. Then back to Athen after i.ex 1 week and a flight to Barcelona, one of the most interesting and faboulous towns in Spain from my point of view.
Take care that you don't choose to many places to see in those 3 weeks, so you end up rushing from place to place - it is a honeymoon after all.
Enjoy the trip and congratulation

Sanne

Hi there! I have never been to Portugal so I don't know about that one, but as far as choosing between Spain and Greece, I would probably err on the side of Greece if you are culture-vultures. What you could do is go island hopping. You can fly into Athens to see the sights there and then go onto a few islands. Crete, for example, has the mythological beast the Minotour's caves. For beaches try Kefalonia which is one of the least touristy islands or Zakynthos. Then you can have your Greek culture and history, AND moonlit walks along the beach with the sea lapping at your toes..... Have a great time and congratulations.
