I guess that I am just lucky~
everytime we go on a trip-I love the place so much that I want to live there..I come home and re decorate the house to remind me of whatever city I have just visited..I cook the food we had there..my husband looks for wines that we had..we listen to the music from that country-too bad this didn't happen to you.Like someone said, maybe it was your companion, or maybe it wasn't the right time...try again, it might work next time!

Anon-after reading your report I can understand what you are saying-even though I don't feel the same way. What you feel is what you feel! (duh!) And, you have every right to and I applaud your courage to tell us. Do not let others here make you feel bad about your different experience in Europe.
Maybe YOU are the lucky one! I come home depressed that the trip is over (my husband and I do travel-more than most-but nowhere near as much as many on this board) and don't usually have another trip planned at the time. Last summer we went with 8 friends to Ireland, London and Paris and I can't tell you how much fun I had planning that trip. Now that it is over I still can get "down" about that. When we get home I wish we could move there or travel more or stay longer or.....
You, on the other hand, know that you were not impressed and can go on-AND spend less time on airplanes and drive around the country! That is a good thing.
Shadow

We have found the food to be great in Europe. Items are served fresh and hot. Even simple items like a steak and fries in Switzerland are fresh no frozen fries. Then what can you say about France where even a small cafe in a village serves great food.

Hi anonymous..I've been to Europe about 5 times and each time have had second thoughts on my return. I remember another post saying "is that all there is?" and I sort of understood that too. But I think part of the secret is going there and not running around like mad fiends from place to place to pack in as much as possible into every moment. If you can find a way of going to a place that is well situated and staying put for a week or longer and soaking up the culture etc. it might help. Even people who have babies have post-partum depression...but maybe when you've had a chance to think about your experience you might feel the urge to venture over again.

I'd also like to make a suggestion. My last trip in October was my third trip abroad and my first trip travelling alone. While I enjoyed my first two trips, they were both somewhat marred because I was travelling with other people. I always had the suspicion that travelling alone would suit me best and I was right. This last trip was wonderful. I think part of that is because I'm an introvert, but part of it is the flexibility that it allows. I didn't love every place that I visited, but, because I was alone, I could leave if I wasn't enjoying myself and linger if I was. I could also change plans last minute if I decided I was in the mood for something else. I didn't every feel alone though because I was meeting people constantly.
