High tea in London

How does tea work in London. There is a fixed price, but can you eat and drink as much as you want, or do they charge you per sandwich and glass of tea that you consume? I know there is usually a flat rate for tea, but how much do you get for that price? Thanks

a "Set" Tea will normally be an inclusive price. For that you get a pot of tea, 3 to 5 different types of small sandwiches, scones/clotted cream/ preserves, and tarts and others small cakes. They will usually refill the pot and offer more of all the food if you run out. The only "extra" is a cocktail or champagne if you want something "harder" to drink.

And Kert, you're not too likely be served a "glass" of tea in England.

Kert
I think you mean "afternoon tea"; high tea is more an evening meal like supper in the US.
I've had afternoon teas in London when they keep offering additional food, and others in which everything was a la carte, priced separately. A tea can be quite filling for some, just a snack for others I suppose. What some people do
is have an afternoon tea if they are going to the theatre; that means they don't have to rush an early dinner, and they can have a late dinner after the theatre if they like. The more formal teas, such as at the Dorchester hotel, tend to be pricey but with seconds offered. Afternoon tea in a casual place like the Fountain restaurant of Fortnum and Mason's store, could include whatever you want from the menu because it is all separately priced.

Kert, just wanted to let you know (in case you're not aware of it) that Brown's Hotel sends out the most wonderful brochure (with a lovely cover letter to boot).
I received mine just this past weekend within a few days of requesting the brochure from their website. Was completely charmed by it. I long to to have afternoon tea in the library now. mmmmm! : )

Here's the URL: http://www.brownshotel.com/
To go directly to request the brochure:
http://www.brownshotel.com/general/requestbrochure.htm

Happy Travels,
Mary C : )
