Het Loo Palace from Amsterdam?
Is it possible to do Het Loo Palace, near Apeldoorn, as a day trip out of Amsterdam? I would have a car available to me if that would be the best way. I guess the other question should be is Het Loo Palace worth a day? We have plenty of time, and I've already dialed in the "must see's" in A'dam according to this forum. Just wondering if Het Loo is a day trip, or can I catch it on my way out of Amsterdam on my way to the next destination (Ardennes/Luxembourg), though a little round-about. Thanks, gang.

Palace Het Loo is near Apeldoorn which is about an hour by car from Amsterdam. I like the palace and the gardens and I reckon you will need about 2 hours to see it all. Public transport to the Palace takes longer as you need to take a train to Apeldoorn and a bus to the palace. About 2 hours one-way.
A nice (long) day-trip would be to combine Het Loo with National Park De Hoge Veluwe and the Kroller Muller Museum (www.kmm.nl) You can also easily spend a full day in the National Park.
When you decide to visit Het Loo on your way to Ardennes/Luxembourg, it is indeed a small detour and possible. Take the road via Arnhem, Nijmegen, Venlo and Maastricht on your way to Belgium.

We took the train, from Amsterdam to Apeldoorn to see Het Loo Palace, we took a taxi from the tain station. The Palace was interesting, and the grounds were awesome! (even in February) we lost track of the time, and missed a timely train back to Amsterdam, had to wait at the train station for an hour or more, but, that was okay. I would say it is a good day trip, for the grounds alone, but then, I am a gardener, and love to look at plants.
Hope this helps.
