Hertz vs. AutoEurope (U.K.)
For this summers trip to Scotland, I am trying to decide between renting from Hertz or from AutoEurope. The rates are very similar, (AutoEurope beat the Hertz rate by about $45 for a 12 day rental) but I am simply unsure about going with a known quantity-Hertz vs. AutoEurope and saving a few bucks. Any thoughts?

I have used Auto Europe 5 times though never in the UK. They contract with other, known rental companies; they don't have their own cars. I found their service to be excellent which other than price is the thing that sets companies apart. I would highly recommend them.

Maybe Hertz is less known to Americans, but I'd be willing to guess that overall, AutoEurope rents more cars in Europe than Hertz does.
Don't be afraid of AutoEurope. I've done it many times and never had the least regret.
By the way, if you have a problem with Hertz in Europe, don't expect to easily resolve it back home in the US (if that is where you are from). They will tell you that Hertz there is completely independent and probably won't help you.

Sorry, can't believe I said that. Of course I meant, Hertz is BETTER known to Americans. Obviously as I mistakenly typed it, my opening statement makes no sense. I was relating to Tim's post that Hertz is a "known-quantity". Sorry for the mistake, but I thought the rest of the post pretty well explained the point the right way.
Again, sorry for the mistake. Will I be forgiven?

funny-- I understood what Patrick was trying to say before he even explained his mistake-- but aside from that, here's another vote for Autoeurope. Although we only used them once, we had no problems whatsoever, and plan on using them again in several months.

Yes, Patrick I think most of us understood what you were saying.

xxx, sorry I don't remember that commercial. I remember the Avis slogan, "we're #2, we try harder", but I don't remember them identifying who #1 was.

Tim, I too have had success renting through AutoEurope.
