Hi Stephanie,
If you are just going to be in Andalucia, take the bus from place to place. It's faster and cheaper, and does not require a reservation.

Hi Stephanie. We traveled by train through Andalusia by train and thought it was great. The AVE trains were high speed, on time and comfortable. The train from Madrid to Seville took about 2 1/2 hours; I can't remember the times on the other ones we took but we did travel from Seville to Cordoba and from Cordoba to Malaga. While in Malaga, we also used the local train system to get us from the train station in Malaga to our hotel in Torremolinos and from our hotel to the city of Torremolinos.

The only bus we took was from Madrid to Toledo that took about an hour. There were more frequent buses than trains on that route.

For more info on trains, go to www.renfe.es. If you want to look at other transportation options, go to www.tourspain.es.

If I decide to go by rail, does it pay to get a eurorail pass or are the prices comparable once I am there? Is it easy to get from Seville/cordoba/ or granada to Salamanca? which city would be easier and which mode of transportation, bus or train?

If you are only going to be in Spain and have decided to take trains, you can buy a train pass for Spain only (much cheaper).
Try this website for clarification:
www.ricksteves.com/rail/99spanrail.htm
