Help with Spain/Portugal itinerary

We will be traveling through Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Portugal this summer, however we only have 2-1/2 weeks. We will be flying for $100 from Rome to Barcelona. If we decide to skip Venice since it is somewhat out of our way (Switzerland to Cinque Terre to Rome), we will have one extra night in our itinerary. Our current Spain/Portugal intinerary looks like this:
Barclona - 2 nights
Pamplona (Running of the bulls) - 2 nights
San Sebastian - 1 night
Madrid - 2 nights
Lisbon - 2 nights
Night train Mad-Lis - 1 night
I know it's quick, but we only have 17 nights and we're seeing Italy and Switzerland too. I need suggestions as to where to add 1 night...whether it's adding it to a current destination or staying in another place. Please help!! Need advice!~

I trust you have 2-3 weeks off from work to recover from this. I know that a remark like that is not constructive advice, but you need to eliminate two of these four countries, in my opinion.

Best wishes,

Rex
Ben, In 17 nites I would pick 6 destinations. It looks like you have 3 in Spain already in place--that leaves you 3 in Italy. Forget Lisbon on this trip. Do not make it a scavenger hunt. Enjoy your choice of 6 wonderful venues.

I'd stay in Sintra just outside Lisbon - it's a beautiful place. If I cut anything out of this itinerary it would be Pamplona. I haven't been, but my friends, who have, described it as a drinking fest more than anything else - not something I'd be be too worried about missing!

Leave it open. Your itinerary needs some flexibility and accomodate for unavoidable delays and shopping

My recommendation is to add 1 day in Lisbon. You can do a day trip from Lisbon to Obidos, Nazare and Fatima, and another day trip to Sintra. Portugal is a wonderful country. The food is delicious, the people are very pleasant, and if you like History, you will be thrilled. Good luck, Gilda
