Seville is just two hours from Madrid or so by bullet train - the Holy Week in Seville is said to be so so divine - just a neat city - visit Cordoba, another neat old town and home of one of Europe's most famous cathedrals - once a mosque now a cathedral - just a short train ride from Seville.

Q - do you mean 3 days each in Madrid and Barcelona - if not then spend all 7 days in those two cities and in Madrid do a day trip to Toledo!

You might look into day trips from Madrid or Barcelona -- Toledo, Segovia, Cuenca, Tarragona....

I'd wait to visit Sevilla until you can spend a week and a half or two weeks in Andalusia. JMO.

three days in Seville would be great - and I'd so a day trip to nearby Cordoba too - rather rushed but I can't think of two better places in Europe to drink up old-world atmosphere.

Make your third stop Seville. It is what you are thinking about when you think of traditional Spain.

I vote for Seville, too. Madrid-Sevilla-Barcelona in 10 days is a perfect introductory trip to Spain (I think of it as the Spanish equivalent of Rome-Venice-Florence for a classic overview visit).

If taking trains between Barcelona and Madrid and then to Seville (only a few hours by high-speed train as mentioned) - and you know your exact dates go to www.renfe.com - the Spanish Railways site and book as early as possible to nab the limited in number discounted tickets - deep discounts sometimes compared to full fare walk up tickets.

That said the site, per many comments on Fodor's, is hard to get working for many novices but if you ask here some experienced Fodorites will come to your aid.

For lots of great info on Spanish trains check out the superb IMo sites - www.seat61.com - good info on discounted tickets; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com. Though there is a Spanish Railpass you are not taking enough trains to merit looking into that.

You can travel on an AVE train directly to Seville (about 5 hours) without going through Madrid. Makes for a much more direct 3 city itinerary if you can book an open jaw; Barcelona - Seville - Madrid

you can also fly non-stop between Seville and Barcelona. If you book the tickets early enough you can get them really cheap.
