Start by reading about Paris and what sights you want to see. You can also check it out here if you click on the "Destinations" tab above. It will be a bit meaninghless to recommend restaurants as you have only given one criteria: casual. It would be good to add what your budget is. Never heard of New Robin Hotel, sorry. Check to see if it exists at Trip Advisor (www.tripadvisor.com).

Because Paris is a huge city, I think it helps to get to know the arrondisement you are staying in to plan activities. They are referred to by number (i.e., 1 is in the center then spirals outwardes thru 15+ or so). You can tell the arrondisement by the 'zip code' in a hotel address.

No sense getting recommendations for casual restaurants if they are on the other side of the city from where you are staying.

Hmmm. I can't find any reference of a hotel with that name on Trip Advisor or thru Google.

It can be a good idea to give people the address of a hotel and the general area, so those that know the area may make suggestions.

I suspect you mean the New Hotel Roblin, a 4* hotel behind the Madeleine in the 8th. That's a convenient area for transportation and shopping, and very central. I don't stay around there myself so don't know about casual places to eat so much. I do like the Grand Cafe at 4 bd des Capucines, which isn't too far away, but don't think that would exactly be called casual, but it's not too expensive.

i heard you can ride up and down the sane on one of them bateaux mousses-- or was that bateaux mooses? anyway, they got lights and everthin. a real thrill! and here's another hint: they eat all that cheese after supper, so make sure to leave some room now!

yes indeed it is the new hotel robin. thanks for the info. i go 4xs a year for the fashion trade shows and runwayshows. this is the first time i have posted on fodors so i now realize i have to be more specific. i want fun and different things to do from people in the know who go to paris often. i will go to buddha bar and david and spoon but were hoping u guys might know some good underground or time out places. quelle domage!!! i will try to stay seine orsay u think u r eiffelly funny.

Clarify again, please. You must mean that the hotel is the New Hotel Roblin, but you said again it's New Hotel Robin.

Assuming you do in fact mean the New Hotel Roblin, doesn't strike me as anything special, esp. at the rates they charge. The TripAdvisor reviews are VERY mixed (and it's not really a "new" hotel). For that general area, I'd rather splurge a little more and stay at Sofitel le Faubourg or look elsewhere and spend less.
If you want something different to do, head out to Culture Biere on the Champs Elysees (www.culturebiere.com). Fun, chic and not as well publicized as Buddha Bar. Or spend some hours riding around Paris in an old restored Citroen Deux Chevaux (with driver/personalized tour guide) and watch the tourists take pictures of you.

You can use the seach engine to find just about any info you could possibly need. I am a regular on this forum and I will be spending all of October there. But, I am always learning new things on this forum !

thanks btlke and christina. yes, yes new hotel roblin. i am dyslex. i had no choice about the hotel cause all the good ones were booked by the other fashionistas and i waited too long. i finally picked this because it is in the louvre area and many of the shows are nearby. should i try to get reservations at the restaurant now?or can i wait?

A fun, inexpensive casual spot for French "comfort food" (steak tartare, roast chicken, salad with goat cheese, etc.) is the Bar des Theatres on the Avenue Montaigne, across the street from the Plaza Athenee. Lively crowd (staff from the designer boutiques, chauffeurs for the celebs staying at the PA, fashion mag editors, etc.), friendly staff, open 365 days a year, if you understand French, you will hear lots of interesting gossip.

The Bar des Theatres even plays a central role in the movie Orchestra Seats:
