July 24 Leave Washington, D.C.
July 25 Arrive Munich
July 26 Munich
July 27 Munich (including Dachau)
July 28 Munich, rent car, drive to Fussen
JUly 29 Fussen, castles, luge, etc.
July 30 Day in Lindau, spend night in Fussen
July 31 Drive to Lauterbrunnen, stop in Lichtenstein on the way
August 1-3 Lauterbrunnen
August 4 Drive to Rothenburg
August 5 Rothenburg and Nuremburg
August 6 Drive Romantic Road, night near Munich airport
August 7 Fly home

Thanks for any advice/input you can give.

I think your itinerary looks great. The only thing I will comment on is that we made a stop over in Liechtenstein on the way from Fuessen to Appenzell, and regretted it. It was a little out of our way, but the country is tiny, there is not much to see or look at, and the scenery is prettier in the other areas you will be in. Not to mention we got a little lost trying to get out of the country. Still, I did pay the money for the passport stamp, which is kind of fun. If it is on your way, it's fine, but I personally wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

I think that you should make a small change. If you drive from Fussen to Lindau, why do you want to return to Fussen. From Lindau you can drive down to Licthenstein on your way to Switzerland, if you keep on the autoroutes heading down. You are in Germany, then it jumps across the border to Austria and then to Licthenstein-across and you're onto the Swiss autoroute.

Then stopping at Appenzell you could have a lunch with this famous stinky cheese. Actually, this is good cheese but many people think it's hard to smell. The Swiss make jokes about the people in Appenzell, saying that they're small people. So, if you visit to this village, take care where you're walking. They can be missed since they're not noticed.

The drive from Fussen to Lindau is beautiful and staying an evening at lindau would be worthwhile.

Have a good trip.
