HELP WITH ITINERARY IN ROME

I will be in Rome arriving on Feb 17th @ 930am and departing Monday 23rd. So basically about 5 days - any suggestions on what to see when to see etc.........I am traveling with my 14 yr old daughter.
I thought about one of the hop on/off tours that way we can get from place to place as easy as possible. I appreciate any suggestions you have

Aside from the biggies, Vatican, Colosseum and forum, Piazza Novona, Spanish Steps, etc. we really enjoyed the Villa Borghese musuem which we visited in October for the first time after 3 trips. I don't know of any on/off tours but would recommend a guided tour of the Forum and Vatican because I got way more out of it that way.

I don't think the hop on/off buses are a good option in Rome.
The sites in the historic center are close enough for walking, usually you have to get from your hotel to the bus route at the beginning & end of the day, using them to go to the Vatican Museums & St. Peter's would be a waste if you spent the entire day there, a r/t taxi for 2 vs 2 hop-on bus tickets might be alot easier even if a few euro more (taxi hotel to point-A sightsee-walk-sightsee and taxi point-B back to hotel).
Of course the buses and Metro is alot cheaper .
Where is your hotel? I'll check my bus map and see what buses near your hotel will get you near the sites.
Check-out www.twenj.com for Rome info and for daytrips click-on "Excursions".
For a hop-on/off bus to the Catacombs and other sites in that area, at the top of this page do a search for Archeobus.
Regards, Walter

We did an enjoy Rome tour of the Vatican and hooked up with a history student giving a "free" tour for tips in the Forum. Do a search on this site for other tour companies but we found Enjoy Rome the most reasonable as others were extremely expensive in my opinion. If you are really on a tight budget, try buying a guidebook with walking tours of areas which are better than nothing. We used Rick Steves on our trip and his tours were good.

Thank you everyone for the information
ParadiseLost - I have a deposit on 3 different hotels actually b/c I cant decide Hotel Beverly Hills is the most reasonably priced and seems to have good reviews on TripAdvisor then I am considering Capo D'Africa and Colonna Palace these are more expensive but I think more centrally located - I appreciate your help with bus schedules
