Help with itinerary
Hello,
I am going to a wedding near Strasbourg on July 1st. We are leaving from NYC June 27th to Amsterdam. Our idea is:
- June 28th: Arrival on Amsterdam and renting a car - going to Brugges and sleeping there
- June 29th: Luxembourg
- June 30th: arrival at the wedding site
- July 1st: wedding
- July 2nd: Strasbourg
- Then we will have until July 12th to travel (plane to the US July 13th 7am). We will have a car, so the initial idea is to go to Provence and stay some days there, then going back in direction to Holland and spending the last 2 nights in Amsterdam.
Any ideas of itinerary and some advice?
Thank you very much,
gpm

Aside from there being a bit much unpacking and repacking and moving around, I see not much wrong with this plan.
But if you go to a wedding, won't you have a ton of stuff to carry, more than the minimal travel clothing one would normally have?
Leaving stuff in the car is risky, especially a rental, so be prepared to do a bit of carrying to and fro, and hope to be able to drive right up to some digs - maybe stay in smaller towns (nicer anyway) where a car is not such a hindrance?
Rent your car outside Amsterdam, at the airport, and don't even consider taking it into town, coming or going - you'll have to do a bit of logistics planning for the last few days, where to stay and where to keep your stuff, but the airport is only about 12 minutes from the main train station, so you'll manage.
Have a great time!

Hi gp,
You will be in Alsace, not far from Burgundy in France and the Black Forest in Germany.
Is there a particular reason for going to Provence?
Also why fly in/out of Amsterdam? Have you considered Stuttgart, Frankfurt or Munich?

Hello,
We have bought the ticket to AMS due to a very good price from NYC.
Burgundy and the Black Forest could be excellent options too. My wife wants to know France, especially small cities - this is why we are considering Provence.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
gp

Hi gp,
For small towns, look up http://www.alsace-route-des-vins.com/
Also consider Beaune, Dijon, and the towns of Le Creusot, Autun, Vezelay and Semur in Burgundy.
