Help with Hotels - Berlin, Munich, Vienna & Venice
My family (wife and two kids aged 11 & 9) are planning a trip to Europe beginning May 20th. We are planning to arrive in Berlin on the 20th, spend three nights there, go to Munich (spend two nights), then on to Vienna where we spend 2 nights and finally to Venice where we plan to spend 3 nights (including a day trip to Florence). Appreciate if you could recommend hotels in these places - preferably with family/triple rooms and within say Euro 150 per night. As we plan to travel by train, nearness to the station would be an added bonus. Thanks a lot in advance....JK

Hi j,
Are you sure about this expedition?
Train times Berlin/Munich 6:38 hr, Munich/Vienna 4 hr, Vienna/Venice 7hr.
Each time you move, you are losing a day.
If you take night trains, how well will you all sleep?

I would leave out the daytrip. You don't have enough time in Venice as is, and it will be another 6 hr on the train to do a whirlwind dash through Florence.
In Munich, I can recommend the Hotel Uhland.

Ira,
Thanks. Yup planning to take the night trains for the Berlin/Munich and Vienna/Venice legs. Regarding Munich/Vienna, we might just do a day in Salzburg in between, which would cut down the time travelled. Actually all of us kind of love travelling by trains.
Hotel recommendations for other locations would be might helpful.
Thanks again...JK

So hard to find family sized rooms in many places. Berlin is so huge, a lot depends on what you'll be doing there.
In Munich we can recommend Hotel Condor, Hotel Uhland and Hotel St. Paul...but I am not sure that any of them have family rooms. Connecting rooms maybe, and 2 rooms at these places should fall within your budget.
We DROVE between Salzburg and Vienna, stopping to see Melk..and would definitely choose this again. Beautiful. Avis one-way rental from downtown to downtown was very affordable compared to train.
Be sure to do TONS of homework and know exactly what you want to do and see in every city, since you have such short stays. Make the most of it.

Don't forget that you can use the Hotels tab above and read the recommendations there. In Vienna, I have stayed at Pension Pertschy and I would recommend it for both its rate and location.... just off the Graben. Although a short cab ride will be required from the train station, this pension will put you within walking distance of most sites you will want to visit within the city.

I second the Pension Pertschy recommendation in Vienna. The price is great, especially given its location. Its within walking distance of the Hofburg, and very close to St. Stephens and the metro. We didn't use a cab though; we just switched from one metro line to another in one Westbahnhof that took us right to the Stephensdom (I believe that's the name) metro stop.
